A new year is upon us once a-gain, and now is a great time to set some goals and really focus on achieving our potential this year. I encourage you all to set or re-evaluate your goals, and to really get excited about what you can accomplish if you really commit to them.
I read a quote the other day that I thought was spot on. It went something like this: no one sets a goal of being out of shape, getting poor grades, and no accomplishing anything; those are things that happen to people who don't have any goals. I think that quote has always been true, but never has it been more true than with today's society.
If I don't have any goals, there are just so many easy things I can do to keep myself entertained so that I don't have to face the fact that I am not really accomplishing anything. Video games, electronics, television, I'm not saying these things are bad, but when we don't set goals, these things can easily sneak in and rob us of our precious time and potential. That's why it is so important to have goals that motivate us to get off the couch and make something of ourselves!
With the new year, you have probably noticed many changes at our school/dojo. Heck, it doesn't even look like the same place anymore! Besides the physical changes to the actual school, I am very excited about some of the improvements to our actual classes. With more instructors, and very experienced ones, I might add, we are better abel to separate our classes by experience level, allowing our students to receive more help on the material that is appropriate for their rank. With adult martial arts classes, this is helpful; with children's martial arts classes, it makes all the difference in the world.
One of my goals for this year is to be able to sponsor more sports teams in the Towson and Lutherville Timonium areas. Last year, we were very fortunate to be able to sponsor a number of little league teams in the Lutherville Timonium Rec and Towson Rec leagues, and we hope to be able to sponsor even more teams this year. The Towson and Timonium communities have been very supportive of our martial arts classes for kids and adults over the past 7 years, and we feel it is very important to give back to the community.
